God originally built humans to have a high value for trust
and
relational fidelity. From this foundation, all levels of
relationships
are based (Gen. 2:15-25). Betrayal is a destruction of the fidelity
that
two parties have agreed upon through unspoken, spoken, or
written
means. Betrayal damages relationships—sometimes permanently.
The deeper the relationship, the greater the betrayal (Ps.
55:12-14;
Matt. 26:14-25, 48; John 13:1, 2, 18-30; Heb. 10:26-30; 2 Pet.
2:20,
21). Betrayal leads to anger, chaos, violence, divorce, and
unemployment. While separation based on something being
illegal,
immoral, unethical, or unbiblical may be advised, betrayal never
is.
There may be a time to leave, but never a time to be disloyal.
God
expects fidelity in all levels of life; God, spouse, family,
church,
work, country, etc. (Prov. 2:16-19; 5:18, 19; Mal. 2:13-16).
Betrayal
starts with discontent in the heart that becomes destruction in
the
hand. Where there is no faithfulness, there is no future!
