Abraham was born about 2100 BC in the city-state of Ur in Mesopotamia (200 miles south of modern Baghdad in Iraq). Here, he married Sarah and settled down to raise a family. But after the death of Abraham’s brother, Haran, their father Terah set the clan out for Canaan. Going north along the Euphrates river they stopped halfway and settled in the city of Haran. Sometimes, your plans are affected by other people’s decisions. After living there for years, Terah died and God called Abraham to go to Canaan (Acts 7:2-5; Heb. 11:8). Not knowing exactly where he was going, Abraham in faith went with his wife, servants, and nephew Lot, hundreds of miles south to Canaan. The blessing of God often overflows from men of God to others. Go with people of God who are going where God is going!
