The author of Hebrews reminded Jewish Christians about the God they serve. When Israel was at Mt. Sinai, the presence of God shook the earth, burned the rocks, and caused smoke and lightening as God spoke (Ex. 20:18). And after they rebelled against God, He was going to destroy them all, but Moses intervened as God’s representative. With Moses God chose to speak face to face, give the Law to, and call His friend (Ex. 33:11). Yet when confronted with a small amount of God’s glory, God protected him so he wouldn’t die (Ex. 33:22). As God, Jesus was at Mt. Sinai, and in the presence of his infinite power, he will judge everyone who has ever lived (Matt. 16:27; Phil. 2:10). The presence of Jesus is the perfection of power.
