Sheep aren’t athletic and have no natural defense mechanism
against predators. Without oversight and loving supervision,
most
sheep will become endangered and die. Scripture describes
humanity
as spiritual sheep that are defenseless against damage from
living.
Like sheep in the wild, humans eventually incur pain and
problems
as they walk through the valley of death (Heb. tsalmâveth,
‘deep
darkness/death/distress’) and are confronted by evil. As part of
living
in a broken world, even believers will go into seasons of
difficulty. In
the day of physical, emotional, financial, or spiritual
trouble,
believers are to seek God first as their protection (Ps. 34:19;
46:1;
121:1-8; 138:7; 2 Thess. 3:3). The safest place is in the hand of
God!
