Cana was a small, prosperous town next to Sepphoris—the Roman administrative center of Galilee ruled by Herod Antipas. A couple months earlier, Jesus had attended a wedding in Cana. During the festivities, wine had run out. To facilitate faith in his disciples and to possibly help relatives, Jesus miraculously turned water to wine (John 2:9-11). This miracle, along with supernatural acts he recently did down south in Jerusalem, caused people all over to seek him. Use your popularity to influence people for good! Growing up around Galilee and working in Nazareth, Jesus had friends, family, and relatives who knew him well. Jesus’ ministry started among his closest circles and went out from there (Matt. 13:54; Mark 1:14)!
